ABBA You Can Dance!

Every since I saw Mamma Mia at the movie theatre, where I sang every song OUT LOUD during the entire film (if you were sitting next to me I apologize…AGAIN), I’ve been hooked on ABBA. When I heard Ubisoft came out with a new dance game with all ABBA songs in November I flipped. It’s like they made the game just for me.

But a Dancing Queen can’t dance alone! Every year around Christmas we invite The Fitz family (aren’t they cute?!) over for an informal get-together (their last name has been changed slightly to protect their anonmity – you’ll understand soon when you see the photos!)

Last year we decorated gingerbread houses. This year we got our groove on, broke out the fondue pot and had a 70’s style dance party – complete with disco ball and lava lamp. Because NOTHING says Christmas like a lava lamp. Except maybe pink flamingos.

The best thing about our friends, is that they are game for anything…especially Daddy Fitz. So after we had our shrimp, steak and chicken fondue we hit the dance floor (aka my living room).

ABBA You Can Dance for the Wii is a great. While it’s rated E 10 and up – our little ones enjoyed dancing, too! But it was me and Dale that really cut the rug. Don’t be fooled by the slower ABBA songs – they can give you quite a work out. Even favorites that are set to a ballet dance routine made me sweat!

My friends and family were shocked that I’ve had no formal ballet/dance training. All self taught.

Look at the beauty and grace. I think I may have missed my calling.

And check out Daddy Fitz. He’s got the moves…jazz hands and all.

But together – we rocked and/or rolled.

Mommy Fitz and Ed didn’t get on the dance floor per se. But hey, someone had to take the photos.

And Mommy Fitz played a little back up guitar while the kiddos sang and danced in the background. It was truly a family affair.

The star of the night was Jackson. He really can move and kept up with the routines better then us all. Sigh. Youth is truly wasted on the young…am I right?

You can purchase ABBA You Can Dance for the Wii at amazon or Toys R Us.

And with ABBA You Can Dance….you can dance with up to four players and play a role in mini-musical to “Does Your Mother Know” which Annie and I did together.

I highly recommend it because you can be silly when dancing to music from the 70’s and not feel, well – silly.

And also, ABBA rocks.

And the best part? The game features 26  songs, including “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “Fernando,” “Waterloo,” and “Take A Chance On Me” WITH LYRICS on the bottom so you can dance AND sing! Bonus!

(I think I have that same white disco outfit.)

Connor gave the game two thumbs up. That is, when his thumbs weren’t in his mouth licking cupcake frosting. Because what’s a 70’s party without cupcakes with lots of frosting?!
